JANMASHTAMI Festival(Krishna Birthday, Gokulashtami , Dahi hindi)
Lord Krishna, the eight avatar (Incarnation) of Lord Vishnu, was born more than 5000 years ago in Mathura (Vrindavan). Janmashtami is a joyful celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth anniversary. Huge
celebrations takes place at midnight as there is a belief that Lord Krishna made his divine appearance during that hour.

Janmashtami is celebrated in the month of August/September with great devotion and zeal. Janmashtami is also known as Krishnastami, Gokulashtami and Srijayanti. Fasting, puja and bhajans mark the celebrations of Janmashtami. Bhajans like Darsh Do Mohe Girdhari More pranpriye Krishna, more pyare Girdhari, Darsh do mohe, More pran chhootat jat. are very famous which people sing on Janmashtami. The temples of Vrindavan and Mathura, witness a colorful and extravagant celebration. Raslila, is also performed to recreate the life of Lord Krishna and his love for Radha.Temples and homes are beautifully decorated. Night long prayers are offered to Lord Krishna. The idol of Lord Krishna is bathed with Panchamrit which consists of Gangajal, milk, ghee, curd and honey and is placed in cradle. Devotional songs and dances all over North India mark the celebration of Janmashtami.
